Signs
The ancient Romans perfected the art of v-incised letter carving
into hard stones such as marble. The angled letter forms make the words
legible from a greater distance than if they were crudely sandblasted in.
Make your next signage timelessly refined and monumental with my help.
Mosaic
In this ancient art form, I create panels in natural stone or vitreous paste
which can be installed in a frame for wall hanging, into a floor,
used as a kitchen backsplash centerpiece, or perhaps set in a pool or shower
area.
Fresco
I use the traditional method of fresco painting with scratch coat,
brown coat, and intonaco. The authentic ancient pigments, and lime and sand
ratios used ensure a rich finish that ages gracefully as the lime turns
slowly back into limestone, locking in the painted design for eternity.
This is not faux painting, but the real buon fresco as in the ruins of
Pompeii or to be found within the Vatican.
Tile
Natural stone tilework is a specialty, particularly that involving many small
or custom cuts. The ancients called it 'Opus Sectile'. I can work with
you and a team of installers to oversee large installations of regular tile as well.
Other services I have include anti-slip treatments and cleaning of natural stone.
Sculpture
For custom sculpture, I complete the work in clay first and then do a mold.
With the mold I progress through plaster to stone or bronze. Anything is possible from architectural details to busts or full sized statues.
Ancient style work with authentic methods and materials
I'm intrigued by art and architectural features which have survived
since antiquity. If a work can be done that gives a viewer a moment
in which they can't tell whether it was made in the last year or
the last two thousand, then I've succeeded. The projects are done in
many mediums, and I work hard to ensure the materials and methods are
as close to authentic as is feasible.
